When it comes to traditional pocket knives, there is a list of five to ten that everyone should own.  Whether they are everyday users or knives that will be added to the collection, make sure to check the following off of your shopping list:

1. Case Russlock

This Case exclusive pattern was introduced in 2000. The knife’s namesake is “Russ” Case, who founded the W.R. Case company.  The Russlock pattern features a liner lock mechanism, along with a ‘tail’ at the base of the blade for convenient one-hand opening, similar to that of a traditional straight razor.  The Russlock (pattern 1953L) quickly became a favorite among collectors with its unique style and beauty and striking handle materials.  The 1953 refers to the year that Russel Case passed away.

2. Buck 110 Folding Hunter

The Buck 110 folding hunter is a classic and iconic knife.  The knife was first manufactured in 1963 when Al Buck set out to design a sturdy hunting knife that could fold up easily and take up less room than a traditional straight knife. Within a year, the model 110 became Buck’s best seller!  Check out my vintage Buck Knives page as well.

3. Victorinox Fieldmaster

Established in 1897, Victorinox has been making useful multifunction pocket knives paired with a sleek design.  With 15 features, from blades to a bottle opener, scissors to screwdrivers and wire strippers to a saw, the Fieldmaster will assist you with indoor and outdoor projects on a daily basis.

4. Great Eastern Cutlery Knives

For those who would prefer to carry a knife like those of 100 years ago, Great Eastern Cutlery out of Tidioute, PA is a wonderful choice.  These knives feature old time knife manufacturing methods and high quality handle materials that make them a functional work of art.  Wonderful patterns including barlows, whittlers, trappers have been issued and quickly snatched up by their fan base.  Check out my Great Eastern Cutlery page for more information and a larger selection of their knives.

5.  Boker Stag Trapper

These famous knives with the world-renowned tree-brand are made in the “City of Blades” Solingen, Germany since 1869. The genuine stag handles are beautiful and the clip and spey blades hold a wonderful edge.

BONUS:  Case Copperlock

In 1997, Case introduced an entirely new knife pattern that took the collector world by storm. Designed by Tom Hart, the CopperLock (549) combined elements from classic Case knife patterns (Trapper & Copperhead) to make an entirely new lockback knife.
